I like seeing good manners in public.

It never ceases to amaze me when I am out in public and I see parents modeling polite manners for their children.

English On The Go

I think the majority of us can agree that

when we're out in public and we must interact in some capacity with a stranger,

it cannot be overstated how important somebody else's good manners are in your interaction with them.

I feel like in the United States these days, really good manners are just very slowly eroding away.

This is in contrast to Asian culture, and in particular Korean culture,

where it's extremely important to have good manners when interacting with somebody that you don't know,

so important that it's built into your language.

In contrast, here in the United States, it's just not as important for some reason.

I think it has to do with how freedom is built into our culture. I'm not exactly sure.

But I'm always very impressed when

I'm out in public and I happen to see a family or a parent with a child

and the parent modeling polite manners

or making sure that the child expresses polite manners when there is such a situation to do so.

I was impressed when I read the story.
