When I was a young boy, the idea of going on a family vacation meant to get as much rest as possible.

English On The Go

Growing up in the U.S., I had what many people would probably consider a very typical experience

when it came to going on a family vacation.

My father always wanted to take us somewhere where we would be relaxing and get a lot of rest,

probably by the beach, where there was water, maybe possibly go out on a boat, and most definitely not cook any meals for yourself.

All of that changed when I was in high school and I took my very first class trip to Spain.

The idea of sitting by a beach became very boring for any more than a few hours, because we were exploring every day.

And I didn't get nearly as much rest that trip, but I learned so much more than I ever thought possible.

And ever since then, I want to experience adventure when I go on “vacation.”

South America, Asia … I can't get enough of it.
