English in a Minute: Burn the Candle at Both Ends

[하늬바람] 2021. 3. 7. 20:27

J : Anna, did you sleep well last night?

A : I've been burning the candle at both ends all week!

J : That's not good.  The body needs sleep to function.

A : Well, soon as my book project is done, I'll be able to sleep.   (yawns)

When you "Burn the Candle at Both Ends", you do too many things in a short period of time.

To get everything done, you have to stay up late at night and wake up early in the morning.

: (밤 늦게까지 일하고 아침 일찍 일어나며 많은 일을 하느라) 몹시 지치다

: make yourself very tired by doing too much, especially by going to bed late and getting up early
